Music
My favorite thing to receive is vinyl. I have an extensive wishlist on Discogs. The items that are on the top of my list are the items marked 7-12″ and LP. I already have most of the items listed in CD format on my computer in MP3 format, so they’re a lower priority on my purchase list.
A lot of my favorite electronica on vinyl is hard to find domestically. Much of it can be found from European sellers on Discogs, but the falling value of dollar and international shipping makes it quite expensive. So in the last few months, I’ve been purchasing from Beatport, which has an extensive digital catalog in full CD quality (WAV format).
I’m not a big fan of the iTunes store because the songs are available in 128 (default) or 256 (plus) quality, which is still well below the CD standard of 1411 kbps. Also, a lot of the songs are “protected” by digital rights management (DRM), which makes them difficult to use in mixing and tagging programs.
- Genesis 1970-1975 box set (to be released September, 2008).
- Doors complete box set on vinyl. Last time I checked it was slightly cheaper from Amazon.
- New Order catalogue reissues (to be released Fall, 2008).
Electronics
- iMac 4 GB RAM upgrade. Available for ~$100 from Crucial.
- Sony KDL40XBR4 40″ 1080p HDTV.
- Leica D-LUX 3.
- Canon Digital SLR. Not sure which model but I’m leaning toward the 40D.
- Samsung flip phone less than 0.5 inches thick, compatible with Sprint and Apple’s iSync. Probably never going to happen but I can dream.
Home
- Chelsea pennant.
- Shelving for my vinyl records.
- Crock pot/slow cooker.
- Artwork for my apartment. I love black and white photography as well as graffiti art. Some of my favorite artists include futura2000, Banksy, 3D from Massive Attack (aka Robert del Naja), B+ (aka Ben Stokes), Ansel Adams, and whoever did the artwork for Underworld’s Oblivion with Bells.
