Beauty is in the processing [∞]

Beauty is in the processing. An image of “ideal female beauty” generated from 15 faces. It comes out surprisingly clear but it doesn’t appear to be multi-ethnic.

Pitchfork’s review of Jet’s new album is the funniest I have read in a while.

Andrew Fire and Craig Mellow won the 2006 Nobel Prize in Medicine today. I was privileged to see Dr. Fire give a seminar in Boyer Hall at UCLA in front of about 25 faculty and students.

Bill to ban online gambling in the works [∞]

There’s a bill to ban online gambling in the works. I think online gambling should be legalized, regulated, and taxed. Online sites should be required to verify that the gambler is of legal age through sophisticated methods. I also don’t think gambling companies should be able to advertise on television or print media with their free “educational” .net sites. A ban on online gambling would significantly hurt offshore sites and gambling sites run in other countries, namely England. Legalization in turn would hurt Indian casinos, increase revenue for major domestic gambling corporations, and probably fuel gambling addiction.
