OJ’s “If I Did It” cancelled []

O.J. Simpson’s shameless book deal and TV interview entitled “If I Did It” has been canceled by News Corporation. Looks like he isn’t going to make an easy $3 million after all.

EndNote student license downloads []

EndNote is available for download at a special discount for students. I had to call sales for this URL since it doesn’t appear to be posted anywhere on their site.

Coach Schembechler passes away []

Beloved Michigan coach Bo Schembechler collapsed before taping the Big Ten Ticket today and died while in care at the hospital.

UCLA taser incident at Powell Library []

UCLA student Mostafa Tabatabainejad was tasered at least four times by campus police when he failed to show ID and leave the library in a timely manner after hours. The Daily Bruin has a response to the incident in today’s paper with video on the online edition.

Software list updated []

Here’s a list of the software that I use regularly.

The latest UNO is flawless []

Interacto’s latest release of UNO for the Mac works perfectly and serves to unify the appearance of Mac OS X. It removes the brushed metal from applications and the Finder. Be sure to download the matching theme for Firefox.

The pesky Adobe Acrobat toolbar []

Richard has a useful post on how to remove the pesky Adobe Acrobat toolbar from Microsoft Office for the Mac. The toolbar is a nuisance because it reappears in its own row every time you launch the program, even if you disable the toolbar. Removal is the only option but it works perfectly!

Michigan vs. Ohio State on iTunes []

ESPN has posted three classic match-ups between Michigan and Ohio State on iTunes. As an added bonus, you can download the two rivalry commercials that aired on television for free!

Smoking ban in Marin County coming soon? []

Marin County might enact a smoking ban for public places that would make the county essentially a no-smoke zone. News like this makes me miss living in Mill Valley.

Folder Size []

Folder Size is a useful program for Windows that integrates into the shell and tells you how large a folder is. I use this for managing dead folders in my iTunes Library.

Facebook notes RSS []

Facebook is now letting users subscribe to their friends’ notes in an RSS reader! I get my news in the morning with Google Reader.

“60 Minutes” correspondent Ed Bradley died today []

“60 Minutes” correspondent Ed Bradley died today. He was my favorite reporter on the show. He will be missed.

Fight back against Facebook sponsored links

Firefox lets you override a site’s CSS using a file named userContent.css. Simply add this code to your userContent file and you’re all set!

/* facebook */
#ssponsor {
  display:none !important;
}
div.ad_capsule {
  display:none !important;
}

You can use this trick on any web page as long as you know the CSS class of the content you want to remove.

For example, you can also get rid of the “Cool New People” on MySpace with this addition to your userContent file:

/* myspace */
#splash_coolNewPeople {
  display:none !important;
}

Britney divorce? []

Did Britney Spears file for a divorce from Kevin today?

Vastu shastra []

Wired ran a feature in Issue 14.11 on designer Smita Narang, who applies vastu shastra to web pages. She reviewed the Slashdot redesign and slammed it, claiming it is incompatible with a number of vastu principles. I checked out her homepage for the book she is selling, and it is quite ugly. Maybe she needs to take some of her own advice.

MBA cheaters []

Do MBA students cheat during their studies?

Bounty for killer arsonist []

There is a $500,000 bounty for the California arsonist responsible for the fire that has claimed the lives of several brave firefighters. The fire is raging outside of Palm Springs due to gusty winds.

Fox’s Full Throttle is a joke

I tried to install Fox’s Full Throttle media player to watch the season premiere of The OC tonight and I couldn’t get it to work with any of my browsers. First, I tried to install it on my Mac, which didn’t work because the player can only run on Windows. So I booted up my PC to Windows Vista and tried to install on Internet Explorer. Surprisingly, the installer didn’t work with IE7, even when I set the zone to trusted with the option to install unsigned Active X controls. Finally, I tried Firefox, which didn’t work either because the player is only compatible up to Firefox 1.5.

WordPress Ajax comment preview

I just got Mike Adam’s WordPress Ajax comment preview script installed and it works great. I’m using it to manage my comments now, which will show correctly processed Markdown scripted comments below the comment form. Thanks a bunch, Mike!
